London homeowners are embracing bold architectural glazing trends in 2026, and one style continues to dominate modern renovations, loft conversions, kitchen extensions, and luxury refurbishments — Crittall-style windows. With their slim black frames, industrial appearance, and ability to maximize natural light, these windows have become one of the most searched glazing solutions across the UK. From Victorian townhouses in North London to contemporary apartments in Central London, Crittall-style glazing creates a timeless balance between heritage character and modern minimalism.
At Dev Enterprise UK, we specialize in bespoke Crittall-style windows in London, manufactured and installed with precision, durability, and premium-quality glazing systems. Whether you are renovating a residential property, upgrading your extension, or designing a stylish office space, our custom steel-looking solutions deliver exceptional aesthetics with modern thermal performance.
Why Crittall-Style Windows Are Trending in London
The demand for Crittall-style windows has increased significantly across the UK due to the growing popularity of industrial-inspired interiors and open-plan living. Homeowners now want slim-profile glazing that allows more daylight into the property while maintaining a sophisticated architectural look. Modern London homes are moving away from bulky window frames and adopting sleek black aluminium and steel-look systems that create cleaner lines and brighter interiors.
Crittall-style windows are especially popular in:
- Kitchen extensions
- Loft conversions
- Modern new builds
- Heritage property renovations
- Internal glass partitions
- Luxury apartments
- Commercial office spaces
- Garden rooms and conservatories
The signature black-framed grid design gives properties a premium appearance while complementing both contemporary and traditional architecture.
The Benefits of Crittall-Style Windows
- Slim Sightlines & Maximum Natural Light: One of the biggest advantages of Crittall-style glazing is its ultra-slim frame design. The narrow sightlines allow larger glass panels, bringing more natural light into the room and creating a spacious open feel. This is one of the key glazing trends currently dominating London home renovations.
- Modern Industrial Aesthetic: The black steel-look frame creates an iconic industrial appearance inspired by classic warehouse architecture and Art Deco design. This style works beautifully in London properties where homeowners want a luxury modern finish with timeless appeal.
- Energy Efficiency: Modern Crittall-style windows now feature advanced double glazing, thermal breaks, and weather-resistant systems that improve insulation and reduce heat loss. This means homeowners can enjoy stylish glazing without compromising energy efficiency.
- Increased Property Value: Premium glazing installations can significantly enhance kerb appeal and add value to London properties. Buyers are increasingly attracted to homes featuring designer glazing systems and open, light-filled interiors.

Crittall-Style Windows for London Kitchen Extensions
One of the biggest trends in London architecture is the use of black-framed glazing in rear kitchen extensions. Homeowners are replacing traditional walls with expansive glazing systems to create seamless indoor-outdoor living spaces. Crittall-style windows and doors are perfect for achieving this premium modern look while maintaining structural elegance.
Many London homeowners combine these systems with:
- Sliding glass doors
- Roof lanterns
- Aluminium bifold doors
- Frameless glass balustrades
- Minimalist interior designs
The result is a bright, open-plan living environment that feels modern, luxurious, and highly functional.
Steel vs Aluminium Crittall-Style Windows
Many homeowners ask whether they should choose genuine steel Crittall windows or modern aluminium alternatives. Steel systems provide authentic heritage aesthetics and ultra-slim profiles, while aluminium systems offer excellent thermal performance, lower maintenance, and more affordable installation costs. Discussions among UK homeowners often highlight aluminium heritage systems as a practical alternative for modern homes.
At Dev Enterprise UK, we help customers choose the right glazing system based on:
- Budget
- Property style
- Thermal requirements
- Planning restrictions
- Desired aesthetics
- Maintenance preferences
Popular Interior Design Trends with Crittall-Style Glazing
London interior designers are increasingly using black-framed glazing to divide spaces without blocking natural light. Internal Crittall-style partitions are becoming highly popular for:
- Home offices
- Dining room dividers
- Staircase enclosures
- Shower screens
- Living room partitions
- Studio apartments
This trend allows homeowners to maintain open-plan living while adding elegant architectural definition.
